Surrey Urban Mission Society
Surrey Urban Mission Society (SUMS) is a Christian mission located in Surrey, BC. SUMS began as a community kitchen in 1995, and since then our services have expanded to include multiple shelters, a hygiene unit for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness, and one supportive housing development, all located in the City Centre area of Surrey.
Together, we are building a bridge to hope for the most vulnerable and marginalized in our community.
“Being one of the biggest cities in Western Canada does not come without its challenges. Having the privilege to work alongside an amazing collection of Staff, Volunteers, and Donors is a blessing. The work that we do in the community lends itself to providing a hand up, not a handout, living the gift of hospitality to everyone in need every day.”
- Jack O’Halloran, CEO
“But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”
— 1 John 3:17-18
