Income Tax Clinic

What is the CVITP Program?

SUMS Place offers a free income tax clinic through the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Trained volunteers complete returns for anyone with a modest income and a simple tax situation, at no cost.

Why it matters.

A filed return can help unlock…

  • Tax refunds

  • GST/HST credit

  • Canada Child Benefit

  • Climate Action Tax Credit

  • Income Assistance

  • Disability Cheque Access

Who can use this clinic?

The clinic isn’t limited to shelter guests — SUMS opens it to the community for all in need.

What to bring to streamline the process:

  • Government-issued photo ID

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • All T-slips (T4, T5, etc.)

  • Any medical receipts

  • Last year’s Notice of Assessment

Missing a document? Come anyway — a casework or volunteer can help you sort out what’s missing!
